Based in Godalming, Surrey, Sheila is Director of The Mediation Specialists and a Resolution accredited family law mediator and Professional Practice Consultant with advanced qualifications in family mediation including direct consultation with children. She is also a member of the Family Mediators Association and sits on the Appropriate Dispute Resolution Committee of the Family Justice Council. Sheila is also a civil and commercial mediator trained by ADR Group, London.
Following academic studies in Politics and International Relations at Lancaster University and George Washington University, Washington DC, and subsequently at the College of Law, London, Sheila qualified as a solicitor in 1993. Having commenced legal training with Clifford Chance, London, she practiced as a family law solicitor with Thomas Eggar for nine years, jointly managing the firm’s sizeable family law team and specialising in high net worth and complex ancillary relief and Children Act matters, including reported, high publicity and international cases. Sheila was one of the first one hundred family law solicitors in the country to be granted accredited specialist status (in family law) by Resolution in 2000.
After a short career break to raise her family and live in France, Sheila joined the family law team at MacDonald Oates in Sussex and Hampshire in 2003 and was made a partner in 2006. Having conducted a dual legal and mediation practice and, having been inspired by the marked benefits of mediation for her clients, Sheila established The Mediation Specialists and practises in Godalming, Surrey, Chichester, West Sussex and Petersfield, Hampshire.
Sheila is qualified to conduct Mediation Information and Assessment meetings.
